June 2026 News and Prayer Letter

Dear Praying Friends, Customers and Supporters of the Open Door Project,

It really is quite surprising how folks find out about The Open Door Project Bookshop.

  • "I heard a rumour that there is a Christian Bookshop again in Inverness"

  • "I saw it on Facebook" (see our Facebook Page here🔗)

  • "A friend told me about it"

Although we have talked about this Project for about six years, we can't take it for granted that the news has reached the Christian Community. The article in the Inverness Courier🔗 has certainly reached many who since have come to the Bookshop. Keep spreading the word!

Thank you.

Prize-giving 2026

It has been a joy to welcome several Sunday School leaders/teachers in the Bookshop, choosing prizes. It is just so gratifying to know that each one of these books has the potential to transform a young life. The power of the printed page, look out for the harvest!

The TODP Community

Last night, Monday 29th of June we had a get-together of Volunteers, Members of the Fundraising team as well as one of the trustees. It was an opportunity of the various groups and individuals to meet as we all work towards the same goal of Expressing God’s Heart, through His People for His Glory.

We had a really encouraging time, seeing how God has hand-picked and sustained each one to serve as part of a bigger team.

More Volunteers

We are so grateful for each one who is getting more confident in the Bookshop, finding their way around and working independently.

However, we do need more people, who can either double up with individual members of the team who are already trained and gain experience that way or start on a different day.

There are still several slots available most of the week.

The Moray Coast Convention

The Open Door Project has been invited to take a bookstall to the Convention in Buckie for Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th of August. Leslie and I will be there for the two days.

If there is anyone out there who would like to come over and help on one of these days, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Introducing Volunteers: Julie Matheson

A photo of Julie, a smiling woman wearing a black and white dotted and earrings. Behind her is a display of greetings cards in the bookshop.

Hello

My name is Julie Matheson. A few years ago I moved to Inverness from Lochinver where I lived for over 50 years with my husband of 45 years and our 2 children.

Our plan was to move to Inverness when we retired as our children had already moved there a few years previously. Unfortunately, just before we were about to move, my husband passed away in 2022 due to a short illness. This left me trying to move forward without him. My faith and my family were a great support helping me to navigate a different path to what I had envisaged for my retirement years.

After working all my life, I felt I had to keep busy and do something to put my Christian faith into practice and volunteering somewhere was something I could do. I volunteered at a busy foodbank for a few years which was very rewarding and when that came to an end, Esther said the bookshop was just about to open.

Over the past few years Esther had told me of the work that "The Open Door Project" hoped to do and they were now just about to move into their new premises, so it was now time for me help as one of the volunteers there.

It has been lovely getting to know people from Inverness and further afield who pop in. We all have different stories, we all have different needs. Whether it's a card with just the right words, a gift, a book, someone to talk to or a coffee, hopefully you will find them here.

If you are interested in volunteering at the book shop, contact Esther for more information. It has certainly been a great encouragement and blessing to me.

Second-hand Books

Two shelves in our shop, pretty much filled with books. Each shelf is labelled as "Second-hand Books"

During the month of July, we will allocate some extra space for the second-hand books which have been donated to the Open Door Project.

Please come and have a browse!

Gift Vouchers

An example voucher. The top third is in block, dark blue. In the top left is the yellow-door logo of The Open Door Project. To the the right, in fancy gold capital letting are the words "Gift Voucher". A gold ribbon and bow are shown down the left of this voucher. The bottom two thirds has a white background and is dedicated to form fields such as the custom voucher amount and the expiry date. Our website address of theopendoorproject.org.uk is typed in smaller lettering in the bottom right of the voucher.

Unsure which book would the best gift? Let the gift-receiver choose for themselves!

Gift vouchers are now available from the Bookshop. Please ask us for more information, or to purchase a voucher.

This is about it for this month, except to say that the Prayer requests from the May Newsletter still apply and thank you for your faithful prayer support.

We are very conscious of God's help.

Looking forward to seeing some of you in the Bookshop.

Blessings in Jesus,

Esther Dowey on behalf of the TODP Team
